We stationed first in small town called Maastricht. The native town of Andre Rieu, our hotel was right in the middle of the town, among cafes and restaurants, and cute little cafes and old churches. Marius was away for work during the day, so I had the whole day with my two beauties. We had fun, not crowded, "let's rush to finish everything" kind of fun. But "let's see who can jump the highest" kind of fun. Walking and sleeping and eating, and drinking coffee :)
We found playgrounds, and parks with carved benches. We walked along the river banks. Our feet hurt, but our hearts were content.
When Marius finished all his work in Maastricht, we all headed to Amsterdam. A hotel 5 min train ride from downtown. One of our trips was delays due to a shooting in the main train station. Just to remind us that violence cannot be escaped anywhere.
We loved Amsterdam. Walking everywhere. Nice buildings. Big plazzas with ample space for running. Museums. Not all activities were a success. For example, Amelia does not like Van Gogh :). Our much expected visit to the museum was very LOUD, with a baby screaming and people giving us the sting eye. We still tried to see everything we wanted. Despite his craziness (or maybe because of it?) Van Gogh still remains my favorite artist. So much color and happiness!
We found a science museum and Catalina mixed substances and played chemist.
Probably the best day was our last one. A visit outside Amsterdam, to see the wind mills. So dutch and we had such a great day!
May we return to Europe for more vacations like this!
